If you are on a budget how do you know what percent is average to spend on parts of your wedding?

Such as how much you should spend on flowers, catering, a location, dress, favors, etc.

If you are on a budget how do you know what percent is average to spend on parts of your wedding?

You can enter in your exact budget amount and it will break it down for dollar by dollar, how much you should spend on what. You can also change it up if you know that you will be spending more or less on something. It is a very helpful website and will help you with your whole wedding planning process, from tracking RSVP's to your budget.
Reply:it really depends on the budget aswell as some details. First figure out your guest list, general styles for clothing, rings, decor. Then you'll get a better look at how much you need where.
Reply:if u gonna have a big wedding then u wills pend more on food, drinks and the venue. u can get everthing else pretty cheap.
Reply:Theknot helped me get an idea of what were essentials, but then I realized my %s are so totally off-base from what they recommend.

I got an excel spreadsheet that has been passed around quite a bit and started figuring out what I thought things would cost or what I think should be spent on different things. I realized I was almost $3k over my budget so I started tweaking numbers. Of course, now that I've gotten real estimates and signed contracts with real $s on them, I revised my spreadsheet and I'm more than $2k under budget now, which is great!

For example, my reception is 60% of my budget but the knot recommends it as 48%. The knot shows I should budget $1,200 for my dress - I paid less than $250.

Feel free to e-mail me if you would like a copy of that spreadsheet I got - - this goes for anyone else reading this as well. I'd be happy to share it.
Reply:I think industry average is:

Reception (meaning food, drink, decor, everything) -- 50%

Photography -- 10%

Music (ceremony and reception)-- 10%

Flowers -- 10%

Wedding attire (bride and groom only) -- 10%

Stationery -- 4%

Other -- 6%

Congratulations and best of luck!
Reply:funny you mentioned that ... Glamour magazine is having a marriage edition this month. They have all sorts of articles concerning your question.

Check out the budget calculator at the Knot. It will give you the percentages.
Reply:Food and liquor would eat most of your budget.
