Which part of the flower contains nectar? Give reasons why.?

Nectar is a sweet, viscous secretion from the nectaries, or glands, in plant blossoms(flowers), stems, and leaves. It attracts fruit-eating bats, hummingbirds, and insects, who aid in effecting pollination by transferring from plant to plant the pollen that clings to their bodies. Nectar is the raw material used by the honeybee to produce honey. It is mainly a watery solution of the sugars fructose.

Nectar, in botany, is a sugar-rich liquid produced by the flowers of plants in order to attract pollinating animals(Mainly birds and insects). It is produced in glands called nectaries, which are generally at the base of the perianth(Floral parts), so that pollinators are made to brush the flower's reproductive structures, the anthers and pistil, while accessing the nectar.

Nectar that is produced outside the flower is generally produced to attract predatory insects. They will eat both the nectar and any plant-eating insects around, thus functioning as 'bodyguards'.

Nectar is economically important as it is the sugar source for honey. It is also useful in agriculture and horticulture because the adult stages of many predatory insects, as well as hummingbirds, feed on nectar.

A nectar source is a flowering plant that produces nectar as part of its reproductive strategy. These plants produce nectar, which attracts pollinating insects and sometimes other animals such as birds.

Nectar source plants are important for beekeeping, as well as in agriculture and horticulture. Their use is particularly important for organic agriculture and organic horticulture, where they serve not only to attract pollinators for crops, but also provide habitat for beneficial insects and other animals that provide pest control.

In gardens, nectar sources are often provided to attract butterflies and hummingbirds as well.

From the above it will be evident that--:

1) Nectar is secreted in nectar glands.

2) These nectar glands are located within a flower (hibiscus) or even on the leaves in some cases , accordingly they are called floral or extra floral nectaries.

3) the main function of nectar is to attract the pollinators (Insects and birds) for pollination.

4) Within a flower also they can be located any where but are very often at the base of the ovary.
